Monument Valley
Our last morning in Moab we go to a rock shop and buy a couple of local rocks, because geology!
We first really came across the Colorado River when we crossed it entering Moab a couple of days ago, now we are going to cross it on our way to the Grand Canyon. Which means this is as far east as we will travel this trip, now we head southwest towards Page.
We’re going via a park called Goosenecks and then Monument Valley
Goosenecks is a series of tight turns the river follows, in a one-mile point-to-point stretch the river travels something like six miles. That creates a pretty cool overlook.
Shortly after that we have a classic western movie view appearing on the horizon: monument valley! The classic silhouette is super fun to see in person (I kinda thought the roadrunner landscape was made up!). We take on the roadside in a couple of places. Cue the western quick-draw music and all that!
We arrive in Page at Lake Powell (a dam-created lake) in time for sunset.
